Workflow Schemes

Workflow schemes define the lifecycle of a task: which categories and statuses exist, and which transitions are allowed.

  • Default scheme: To Do → In Progress → Testing → Done, grouped into three categories (To Do, In Progress, Done). You can set another status as the default landing spot for new tasks.
  • Categories vs. statuses: Categories group statuses for Kanban columns; statuses are the actual steps a task can take. Sorting within a category controls column order.
  • Transition rules: Moving a task between columns checks whether the jump is allowed. If a move is blocked, you’ll see an error message and the task stays put.
  • Export/import: You can export the active scheme as JSON and import a new one if your team wants a different workflow. Always make sure every status belongs to a category and one status is marked as default.

Tip: Keep terminal statuses (e.g., Done, Cancelled) at the end so Kanban swimlanes read from left to right.
